Discover Cóm Bánh Mì

When you step into the vibrant streets of Wan Chai, Hong Kong, you’ll quickly discover a hidden gem that’s sure to leave an impression: Cóm Bánh Mì. Nestled at 28 Tai Wong St E, this delightful spot has earned a reputation for serving up some of the most delicious Vietnamese sandwiches in the area. Known for its mouth-watering bánh mì, the restaurant seamlessly blends traditional flavors with modern touches, making it a must-visit for anyone craving an authentic Vietnamese meal.

From the moment you enter, you’re greeted by the tantalizing aroma of freshly baked baguettes, sizzling meats, and the crisp crunch of vegetables. The menu at Cóm Bánh Mì is simple yet full of flavor, focusing on what they do best - creating flavorful, satisfying sandwiches that reflect the essence of Vietnamese street food. The bánh mì here isn’t just a sandwich; it's a culinary experience that showcases the versatility and freshness of ingredients.

One of the standout features of Cóm Bánh Mì is the selection of fillings, which are designed to cater to various tastes. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic pork bánh mì or prefer something more adventurous like the spicy chicken or grilled beef version, there’s something for everyone. The bread, a crucial component of any good bánh mì, is always light, airy, and slightly crispy on the outside, yet soft and pillowy on the inside. It’s the perfect vessel to hold all the flavors together.

But it’s not just about the fillings. Cóm Bánh Mì excels in balancing the textures and flavors that make this dish so iconic. Fresh cilantro, tangy pickled carrots, and crunchy cucumber slices bring a refreshing contrast to the savory meats. A generous spread of mayo or pâté adds richness, while a touch of chili provides just the right amount of heat. Each bite is a delightful harmony of flavors that captures the heart of Vietnamese cuisine.

For those looking for variety, Cóm Bánh Mì also offers a selection of other dishes that complement their famous sandwiches. The pho, a traditional Vietnamese noodle soup, is rich, aromatic, and full of tender beef slices. It’s the perfect dish to warm you up on a cool day, and many patrons opt to pair it with their sandwich for a complete meal. The restaurant also serves a variety of sides, such as crispy spring rolls and refreshing Vietnamese iced coffee, which perfectly balance the boldness of the main dishes.

The ambiance at Cóm Bánh Mì is casual and welcoming, making it a great place to grab a quick bite with friends or family. The staff is friendly, always ready to offer suggestions if you’re unsure of what to try. Despite the bustling neighborhood, the atmosphere inside is relaxed, allowing you to enjoy your meal without feeling rushed.

With its commitment to quality ingredients and authentic flavors, Cóm Bánh Mì has earned its place as one of the top destinations for Vietnamese food in Hong Kong. The restaurant has garnered glowing reviews from both locals and tourists alike, who appreciate the consistency and freshness of the food. Many visitors highlight the excellent value for money, noting that the portions are generous and the prices are reasonable given the quality of the dishes.

  • Vegetarian banh mi! I frequent this restaurant once a week for vegetarian banh mi and papaya salad (make sure to mention no fish sauce to the staff if you're vegetarian) The coconut water is also quite refreshing. The lunch combo is a good deal for amount of food and taste. Costs me 85hkd for main+side+drink. A special mention to the staff ladies who are always merry, welcoming, smiling, kind, helpful and friendly!! (and can speak English)

  • A casual vietnamese spot to grab affordable meals! In the past month, I visited thrice, so below are my thoughts on the restaurant and dishes I ordered. The staff were very welcoming and lovely, especially the sweet auntie! On every occasion I’ve visited, she always greeted me with a nice smile :) Ordering is done through an online QR code website, so digital payment is super seamless. The decoration of the restaurant is quite lively and well-kept! There’s enough space for a small group. Solo dining is also perfect here since they have bar stools. Here are my thoughts on the food, but I can’t comment on the authenticity since I have never been to Vietnam: Chicken Banh Mi $65 The banh mi bun was so crispy and still warm as it arrived to the table. The airiness of the bun made biting the vegetables and filling easy, so I was able to get full bites of everything. The flavours were really fresh - tasted healthy. So of course I had to pour sriracha on top, which had a great kick and sweetness. However, the chicken was slightly dry, so I would prefer the duck banh mi over chicken, or maybe even try the pork banh mi next time. Charcoal Duck Banh Mi $75 The mayo and liver pate paired well with the flavour of the duck meat to deliver an umami-packed mouthful. I prefer the duck meat over chicken. The charcoal bun was also very crispy and light. Lemongrass Roasted Pork Cold Vermicelli $65 The vermicelli noodles were super springy and bouncy. Only wished there was more pork. Overall, as someone who has never been to Vietnam, the food is good and satisfying, especially at such an affordable price point. The vibe and atmosphere of the restaurant is great, and the staff working there are both quick and also welcoming.

  • We visited Com Banh Mi in Hong Kong and had an amazing experience! The banh mi was absolutely delicious – perfectly crispy bread, fresh herbs, flavorful fillings, and just the right balance of textures and spices. You can really taste the authenticity and care put into each bite. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere felt cozy and vibrant. If you’re craving genuine Vietnamese flavors in Hong Kong, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

  • This is a Vietnamese restaurant along Tai Wong Street East in Wanchai. They have a small indoor seating area and are open from 12pm to 9pm daily. Seating is quick much of the day except during lunch when this place gets really crowded. Be patient if seeking a table. They do take-away as well. Menu features a standard range of pho (beef broth bowls), banh mi (baguette sandwich), Vermicelli (noodle) and other traditional Vietnamese dishes. They have set menu as well. I picked up a Vegetarian banh mi lunch set recently, came with a side (papaya salad) and juice at HK. Portion size fine and overall quality not bad. There are better banh mi places out there in my opinion but this wasn't bad for the price charged for the lunch set.
